This type of plan is an expansion of Accident and Hospital Indemnity Insurance. It provides straight forward coverage as a “fee-for-service plan”. This type of plan pays out a fixed benefit for services outlined in your coverage. There is no “in-network”, and you are not limited to specific doctors, specialists, or medical facilities. You get the control and freedom to go to whomever or wherever you choose. Plans usually pay a benefit amount for doctors’ visits, outpatient services such as labs, x-rays, and outpatient surgeries, as well as a prescription reimbursement. As health indemnity is usually an extension of a hospital indemnity plan, a fixed benefit will be paid out for hospital stays, emergency room, and ambulance service expenses as well.
